Before I start this, I want to ask you a question: Are you reading this on your phone? Maybe it’s an old Blackberry with crumbs stuck in your keys, or a brand new iPhone with your favorite new pop-socket taped to the back. Either way, it’s important, scratch that, it’s 100% necessary for you to understand how important it is that your website is responsive on mobile. I say this, because 63% of all online traffic comes from a mobile device. In this blog, I’ll be highlighting the top three reasons why your website should be responsive on mobile.
Let that sink in for a moment, it’s a big deal.
That’s more than half of all search volume and is constantly rising every single day. So let’s all just take a moment to realize how important it is that your website looks jaw-dropping and is completely responsive on mobile!
Before we jump into things, let’s establish what it actually means to be “Mobily-responsive” and, what’s the difference between that and being “Mobile-friendly?”
Summed up by my childhood BFF, Google, responsive design is one that changes based on the size of the screen of the device. That means that images, text configuration, and formatting all change for the size of each device. Whether it’s a tablet, a huge desktop, or any new “Smart” device like Alexa or Siri, your website changes on its own.
A mobile-friendly design is the exact same layout and functionality of the desktop version, just shrunk for the device. Back in the day, developers created two separate versions of the website, one for mobile, and one for desktop. Some businesses, believe it or not, are still doing this today!
Now, let’s dive into the top three reasons your website needs to be responsive on mobile!
Just for a second, put yourself into your dream client’s shoes. Imagine that you’re sitting on a comfy, blue velvet couch, a fire is burning and you’re on scrolling the gram.
You stumble upon a coach that’s preaching exactly what you’ve been dreaming of and is about to open the doors to their newest 8-week 1:1 program. You click on the URL in their bio like their story told you to do, and you enter their site. It looks great at first, but one of the “Apply here” buttons doesn’t work and you begin to get frustrated. You notice that your tea is getting cold, so you run into the kitchen to refill the hot water.
As you walk by your laptop on your way back to the couch, you think to yourself, “It might just be easier to do it on here, let’s do it.” So, you sit down, and go to the coaches’ website, only to realize that it’s super different from the one you were just on! Colors are different in certain sections, the copy is way longer and you can’t find the offer for the specific 1:1 program you were just interested in.
If that Coach would have been you, you probably would have just lost one of your dream client’s! #ouch

Ladies, I’m going to let you in on a little secret: Google pulls your website to the bottom of the page if your website isn’t responsive on mobile.
Sounds crazy, right?
Google scores every single website’s mobile version on a scale of 1 to 100. If your website scores below 80, Google is purposely not showing your site to people that could inevitably be your dream clients. Sounds messed up, right? Well, Google is as concerned with their user experience just as much as you are, so they don’t want to be providing search results of websites they don’t “approve” of. In Googles words, having a mobile-responsive website:
“Helps our algorithms accurately assign indexing properties to the page rather than needing to signal the existence of the corresponding desktop/mobile pages.”Google
If you haven’t ever taken this test, it takes less than 30-seconds, and is a very important number to keep in mind! Take it here if you haven’t already!

New browsing devices like Smart Watches, Alexa and other Smart Home technologies are popping up every day. With that, comes new device sizes and functionalities. Having a website that automatically adapts and suits each and every device is critical.
